This week, after we are done with our Three "R's", Turbo and I will be reading a book called, "The Legend of the Easter Egg". I found a Lap Book Unit on www.homeschoolshare.com that offered free printables and short lessons. They chose a verse from the Bible as the memory verse for the week, but I decided to have Turbo work on a different one, found in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. He was buried and He rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures." I found a song that goes a long with this from Songs for Saplings that I downloaded the entire album for that has a verse from the Bible for each letter of the alphabet and special holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They even have a verse about honoring your mother and father. He listens to that one A LOT!
Anyways, this morning while looking at the verse written, I had him listen to the song. He knows the song because we listen to this album in the car quite often. But I took a video of him singing it, and when he realized I was recording him, he really hammed it up! Take a look!

Cheeky Lil' Leprechauns!
This week has been all about St. Patty's day and sneaky Leprechauns!
We began the week with coloring the flag of Ireland and using Google Earth to identify where Ireland is on the globe in respect to the U.S.A. My brother and his family live in the Czech Republic and I showed Turbo where they lived and how much closer they live to the land of Leprechauns than we do. He thought that was pretty cool.
After scouring YouTube videos of Leprechauns, I found one where a man dressed as one is dancing a few jigs...pretty hilarious, but I thought we could making a leaping leprechaun in a marionette-fashion way using brads and string. It didn't turn out spectacular, but it was entertaining.
We learned about the colors of the rainbow and what happens at the end of one. So to celebrate, I pulled a "Grammy" trick and layered Jello in the color order of the rainbow. Adding a dollop of whip cream, and you've got yourself a little rainbow, complete with a little cloud. Both the boys really enjoyed that treat.
We had some friends over for corned beef and cabbage one evening for dinner and, I have to admit, it was pretty tasty! However, those sneaky leprechauns must have scooted in the door when we weren't looking, because each time we poured ourselves a pint of beer, it turned green!! Even water coming out the tap turned green the minute it hit the glass! Not to mention the kids' apple juice turning green before our very eyes once it hit their cups! Hmmmmm!!!! Those sneaky lil' devils! (Shhhh...green food coloring hidden in glasses is a great mommy secret!)
We culminated our week with a Leprechaun party, where the boys invited some friends over to celebrate!
We began our party with a story, That's What Leprechauns Do, by Eve Bunting, where she writes about how lil' leprechauns make mischief wherever they go! While I read them their story, they ate the rainbow jello with whipped cream! It was amazing how QUIET they were!
Following that, we made a trap so that we could catch a leprechaun so that he would have to tell us where he hid his gold. Unfortunately, it didn't work. A leprechaun tried, but he was a really good jumper, we decided that, and he jumped out of the hat after the trap door was sprung! Bummer!
For a little science experiment, we put a lot of drops of food coloring into white cake batter, all 6 colors of the rainbow, and made rainbow cupcakes. They looked really psychedelic, but were very tasty!
Finally, to commemorate our party, using freshly carved potato hearts, we paint green shamrocks on t-shirts, that read, KISS ME! Many of the boys weren't happy about that, seeing how they don't like getting kisses from girls, except for their moms! Tank enjoyed a kiss or two from all the moms!
Now, the kids are napping, mom is wrapping up the party and finishing cleaning, and putting up her feet with a nice cold beer...without a touch of leprechaun green.

Bunnys and Chicks...well eggs really
To continue our celebration of Easter, Turbo and I decided to make marshmallow bunnies and rice krispie eggs dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with sprinkles...

While I was cleaning up and Turbo was suppose to be in the bathroom washing his hands, I walked past the bathroom and this is what I saw!

He had taken ALL his clothes off, wriggled himself into the sink so that he could "take a bath" and play with is Hot Wheel cars that change colors in the water. What is it with this kid and being naked today?

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Teaching preschoolers about St. Patrick's Day...of course...G-Rated, is fun and can be exciting!
First, we talked about shamrocks, rainbows, and pots of gold. Then I introduced them to leprechauns! I told them that leprechauns like to create mischief around the house and that they hide a pot of gold at the end of rainbows!
We did some coloring pages and learned the order of the rainbow colors. Then, to make it all sink in, we made rainbow cupcakes with fluffy white clouds on top!
Even Dear Hubby got in on the action!

VAL-EN-YIKES!
"D-I-N-G-O, D-I-N-G-O, D-I-N-G-O and NEMO was his name-o!"...yeah...that's how the morning started. Chalk one up to spelling!
SweetPea and her mama came over for a Valentine's Party. What started out to be an innocent day, turned into a storm of markers. SweetPea gave Turbo two wonderful books that he still cannot put down, he just loves them! Here is their picture:

Cute lil' chillin's...ain't they?
Afterwards, I thought that before we got technical and stuff, I'd help them to get their wiggles out by putting on a dancing video. I was hoping that they would get some practice in following directions or follow the leader...well...that didn't happen. You see, our Spirited Children ARE THE LEADERS!..."and there ain't nothin' anyone can do 'bout it...ya see?" OI VEY! They were dancing around...err...running around in circles, chasing each other and laughing histerically! Mamma and I couldn't help but have pround smiles on our faces! ;)

Turbo's "cow-lick" screams oneriness, huh?!
Now, what would Valentine's Day be without sugar, sugar and more sugar? Why it wouldn't be a party if there weren't any! Now, I am going to be upfront with anyone who is reading this...and a reminder to my future self when I look back when Tank is ready for school; USING BOXED cakemix is OKAY! I fretted quite a bit that I wasn't showing SweetPea and Turbo how to make a cake, or in this case, cupcakes, from scratch. You know what, with any kid, or especialy with our kids, using only 3 ingredients is a good thing!

What I had thought would turn out to be the worst, most horrific part of the party earlier in the morning was NOTHING compared to what happened later! Even spooning the "bladder" (a.k.a. batter) into the heart-shaped cupcake tins, icing them, and even decorating them with a shaker full of sugar crystals on each cupcake was nothing!

Which, by the way, Tank watched the whole time and still to this day is in complete utter shock at the amounts of sugar that was placed on each cupcake.

After a lunch of fishsticks and peas, PICKANICK-style, the kids went to Turbo's room to play while mommy and I had a heart-to-heart talk. Of course, the room was destroyed and messes were made, which was to be expected. But when Turbo came out of the bedroom looking ever so guilty, I knew that things had gone too far. Both he and SweetPea had gotten ahold of the markers and colored their feet! Art class is now in session!

After a lesson on how makers were made for paper and not skin, they went back to the room to play some more. It wasn't until Turbo walked about again, this time, with a little bit more marker on him, did I realized that I had not picked up ALL the markers in the room! This is what we saw:

Are you kidding me????? There were smudges all over the carpet, on their clothes, everywhere! Mama had to leave for work in 30 minutes! She went home to get SweetPea some more clothes while I had the task of cleaning them! Into the tub they went! Thankfully, the markers were washable markers-yeah, thankful! When I put them into the tub, the COLORED THE WATER! I had to empty the tub to put clean water in to wash them!
For privacy purposes, I won't post those pics, but come on! They had so much marker on them that they tainted the bath water BLUE!!!! Bright blue at that!
The day ended with Mama taking leftover lunch to work for dinner, the kids in clean clothes, but stained bodies, and a whole lot of "what were we thinking" going on. I guess this is what we signed up for! I would like for everyone to know there was parent supervision going here, just not good judgement!

Valentines Party!

So this morning, SweetPea and Turbo are going to make Valentine cupcakes and necklaces. I have the morning envisioned in my mind's eye to go smoothly and with excitement the kiddos get to see their creations come to life! HA! Mind's eye...20/20...you know where I'm going with this. I might as well skip to the future and shake my finger at my past self saying, "What did you think was going to happen? Turbo and SweetPea in the same kitchen together with INGREDIENTS!" Well, I'm sure pictures will follow...stay tuned...
